As Catholics, we are called to serve one another, provide for the spiritual and basic human needs of our community, and to protect those less fortunate than us. We invite you to join us in answering God’s call to service by joining in on a variety of opportunities throughout the year.

Divine Child's Christian Service Commission exists as a model and resource of Catholic social teaching to enable all parishioners to put their faith into action. All parishioners are invited to share their time and talent with the Commission as it works to fulfill its mission of service, love, justice and peace under the mantle of evangelization. Join us for one of upcoming meetings.

Service Days

Service Days provide our parishioners with coordinated opportunities to put their faith into action and to witness and encounter Christ. Some of our recurring service events include volunteering at the Pope Francis Center in Detroit, cleaning headstones and praying for the souls of our departed at St. Hedwig Catholic Cemetery, assisting with logisitcs of charitable collections and more.

LIFESPAN - Wee Care Collection 2025

Oct. 5 & 6

During Respect Life Weekend, our parish runs drive to help new moms take the best care possible of their precious little ones!

How You Can Help:

Grab a tag from the “tag tree,” which will be set up in the Gathering Room. Each tag will include the name of a common baby item, such as bottles, sleepers, bibs, etc. Purchase the baby item and return it to the Gathering Room. New items only, please

Christmas Gift Collection 2025

Dec. 6 & Dec. 7

This is one of our parish’s longest-standing service traditions! We collect Christmas gifts that will be distributed to several parishes located in Detroit, which will provide the gifts to parents in need, so that their children may have the joy of opening a present on Christmas morning. When you give to this collection, you are really sharing the joy of Jesus’s birth twice – first, by giving a gift to an in-need parent (think of St. Joseph and St. Mary, in the stable), and second, to the child!

How You Can Help:

Please consider giving to our collection of Christmas presents for the in-need children of several parishes in Detroit. The gift should be new and unwrapped. If you like, you may also provide a roll of Christmas wrapping paper, ribbon, etc.

Thanksgiving Collection 2025

Nov. 8 & 9 | Nov. 15 & Nov. 16

In the season of giving thanks, we collect monetary donations for our St. Vincent de Paul outreach and St. Maria Goretti Food Pantry. This will help individuals and families in our parish and the surrounding community, with food, clothing, housing, and utility assistance.

How You Can Help:

Please take an envelope from the Giving Tree marked with either “SVdP” or “St. Maria Goretti Food Pantry.” Then return with your monetary donation into the offertory basket at Mass, or return it to the Parish Office by November 16, 2025.

You can get involved in one of our Christian Service outreach ministries to help others encounter Christ on an ongoing basis. Learn more about our current ministries and start being a witness of God's love and mercy today.

St. Vincent de Paul

Several years ago, Divine Child partnered with the Sacred Heart Dearborn SVdP, and our joint conference serves people within both parishes’ boundaries. Our mission is to visit those in need, in their homes, just as the Vincentians have done since the Society was founded in the 1800s. We pray with them, and help with food, clothing, medical bills, utility bills, furniture, and rent when possible. We conduct annual clothing drives at both Sacred Heart and Divine Child. The conference relies upon the generosity of our parishioners through the Church “poor boxes.” These donations go directly to the poor, 100% in their entirety. In addition, the Vincentians engage in fund raising such as: Walk for the Poor each September on Belle Isle, Tree of Lights in December, and the Chili Cha Cha in January.

Meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month at 7pm, excluding July, August, and December. They are held in the lower level of the Sacred Heart parish office through the rear entry door.

Life Issues Ministry

Life Issues is a pro-life ministry that advocates for respect and dignity for all human life from conception to natural death. This ministry sponsors:

Two drop off events to donate baby supplies to pregnancy help centers
Respect for Life Sunday's prayerful demonstration upholding life - The Life Chain
Christmas card sale
Mother’s Day/Father’s Day celebration & acknowledgements

Home Bound Ministry

We presently have a group of volunteers who distribute the Eucharist to the homebound. Members of this ministry are trained at Divine Child. Once trained, ministry members are called if a homebound parishioner requests the Eucharist to be brought to their home. Please consider serving on this life changing ministry.

Nursing Home Ministry

The Divine Child Nursing Home Ministry Team serves patients once a month at Optalis Health & Rehabilitation on Ford Road in Dearborn Heights. We have a prayer service with music and then distribute Holy Communion for the participating Catholic residents. We also visit the Catholic residents in their rooms, if they cannot make the service. Mass is celebrated when one of our parish priests join us. Please consider participating in this lovely ministry.

Hospitality Ministry

We warmly welcome you to join our team to support us at various parish events, including: Mass of Remembrance Reception November 2 at 7pm, the Advent Tree Lighting (1st Sunday of Advent), Easter Vigil Reception, Coffee and Donut events, etc.

Fiber Arts Ministry

Members work on their own projects, create items for charity, or seek help from other crafters in a relaxed atmosphere. Learn a new craft from our talented members. There is no cost to members. Members attend as their schedule permits. Good conversation and laughter guaranteed!

Meetings are typically held the first and third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Divine Child High School APR.

St. Joseph Workers Ministry

The St. Joseph Helpers ministry is a non-profit organization founded on Christian values composed of men and women who volunteer their time and talents to provide those in need with basic home maintenance and repairs. We help the elderly, veterans, people with disabilities, and those who need a helping hand. Please consider joining other DC parishioners in this ministry as we strive to give everyone a safe home in which to live. Contact Jack Szpytman jeszpt@gmail.com to learn more and get involved.

The Knights of Columbus is a family-oriented organization, and we welcome you to join as we strive to be better Catholics and serve God, our parish, and neighbors.
