Safe Environments
Jesus tells us that He is the Good Shepherd, the one who knows His flock and lays down His life for them. As His disciples, we are called to share in that same care for one another. This responsibility is not reserved only for clergy, but is entrusted to all of us—parishioners, priests, staff, and volunteers alike—so that together we may watch over the needs of God’s people. Part of this call is making sure our parish is a safe and welcoming home for every person.
The Church of the Divine Child follows the Archdiocese of Detroit’s Safe Environments policy, in alignment with the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. To ensure a safe environment for our children, youth, and vulnerable adults, all volunteers—regardless of whether their ministry directly involves vulnerable populations—are required to:
-
Complete the latest Protecting God’s Children Training
-
Maintain a current background check, updated every two years
Upcoming Protecting God's Children Training Sessions
ADULT VOLUNTEERS
All volunteers (age 18 and older), regardless of whether they are interfacing with children or vulnerable adults, are required to complete all Safe Environments requirements. These requirements must be met before an adult begins their volunteer position at the Church of the Divine Child or Divine Child Catholic Schools.
Current volunteers are asked to update their background check by October 1, 2025, complete their Protecting God’s Children training by November 1, 2025, and be in full compliance by January 1, 2026. Those who are not in compliance by January 1 will be asked to pause their service until all requirements are met.
