Welcome

Our lives are never static, yet the one thing that remains constant is the promise of God's ever present love for us in his son, Jesus Christ. At the core of who we are, in the depth of our souls, is the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit that compels us to move forward with confidence and trust. We welcome you to the Church of the Divine Child.

Rev. Robert McCabe - Pastor

Fr. Bob McCabe, pastor

Fr. Bob McCabe is the new pastor of the Church of the Divine Child. He comes to DC from St. Pius X Parish in Southgate, where he led their church and school community for 11 years.

Fr. Bob is very familiar with Dearborn and the Divine Child community. Prior to entering the seminary in 1989, he was a parishioner at Dearborn’s Sacred Heart Catholic Church for nearly 13 years. Upon his ordination in 1995, Fr. Bob celebrated his first Mass of Thanksgiving at Sacred Heart. With this strong connection to Dearborn, he has supported many of DC’s parish and school events over the years – if fact, many of us have seen him around campus before!

Fr. Bob brings a lot of energy. He is a big proponent of Catholic schools and is committed to ensuring the success and advancement of our parish. He is also an avid and talented photographer, so you’ll be sure to see him out and about at parish events taking pictures!

A note from Fr. Bob:

I am very excited to join the Divine Child community! I recognize DC is a great parish with a history of three giants of pastors, and I am humbled to have this opportunity to serve you. With our prayers this will be a blessing for everyone and a way to help Unleash Gospel!

Fr. Matthew Hood - Associate Pastor

Hello! It is such an honor to be able to be here at Divine Child to serve as your new Parochial Vicar. My name is Fr. Matthew Hood and I was just ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 3, 2017. For the next two years, I will have the ominous title of being the youngest priest in the diocese.

I am so thankful to God for calling me to this vocation. Even in the past few weeks of experiencing priesthood, I have been humbled and consoled by what Jesus has been able to do in and through my priesthood. As I will be serving here with you for the next three years, please allow me to quickly introduce myself.

I grew up in Oakland Twp., Michigan along with my parents, Randy and Denise, and my twin brother named Brandon. As I was growing up, the faith was mainly just paid attention to on Sundays and when I had to go to catechism. During my time in high school, I started to look at the Church as merely a set of rules. It was in initially trying to disprove the truth of the Church, which I saw as an oppressive set of rules, that I began to discover that God is real and Jesus came to save us from our sins. It was in Jesus that I realized my heart was longing for all along. While I was asking these questions of Jesus and the Church, I began to spend time in the adoration chapel at my home parish. In spending time with Jesus in the Eucharist, I not only learned who Jesus was on an intellectual level but I began to fall in love with Him. In the stillness of that chapel, I began to hear Jesus saying to me “come follow me” as a priest.

After graduating from Lake Orion High School in 2008, I went to Central Michigan University. After one year at CMU, I couldn’t wait any longer and I entered seminary. Now, eight years later, and after much formation, prayer and travels around the world, God has brought me here to Divine Child to begin my priesthood. Praise God! I am looking forward to meeting each one of you as we all take up the mission to evangelize. Please introduce yourself if you see me. I cannot wait to see the things the Lord has in store for us.
